REINCARNATION: Lantern Lighting

I have spent a HUGE (maybe inordinate) amount of time shopping for light fixtures. In our previous renovation posts you see that we got rid of our brass light fixtures and updated them. One great trend I came across while researching our dining room table fixture was lantern inspired lighting. We ended up going with a round chandelier type fixture, but I do still love the idea! Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for lantern lighting and a few great fixtures in case you get inspired by the idea!

SUNDAY INSPIRATION: What Happiness Takes

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

I just adore this quote, because of its complete and honest truth. I am a true believer that happiness is a decision you make, and staying happy is a that decision being repeated over and over in your daily routine. Happiness is not a destination but a side effect of courage, work, and intentional behaviors. Obviously anything worth having is worth working for, but I think the really hard part for me was finding that courage and without a doubt happiness takes courage. Only a short time ago I had a really big fear of missing out, of not getting the approval of others. I would buy concert tickets not because I wanted to see the band, but just because I was afraid of missing out. It is such a freeing feeling to know that I am courageous enough to say no to plans because they won’t make me happy. I am courageous enough to tell people my hobbies don’t include going out to bars, but blogging and obsessing about my next home DIY project because that is what truly makes me happy. Never be ashamed of the healthy and happy decision you make in your life just because others might disapprove.

HOME-SPIRATION: His and Her Office

This past weekend I surprised David and gave him his office back. Many of you might be reading this wondering what happened to his office in the first place? Well my kind and gracious husband-to-be let me turn his bachelor pad office (full equipped with bo-flex machine) in to a quirky quest bedroom and a full time clothes closet. I finally came to my senses and realized that David and I both need a space to work and feel comfortable! From that, the idea of a his and her office was born. Next came the challenge of surprising him, luckily he was off to a fantasy football draft and golf outing with his friends this past weekend so it was the perfect time. More on the surprise later, first here are some of my favorite his and her office home-spirations.

SUNDAY INSPIRATION: Transformation

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

I love this quote and I really think it rings true to how our society is today. So often I feel like we are all under this pressure to be a certain way, to be perfectly put together, and not show the world our struggles. But honestly, I feel like the world would be a better place if we all accepted the struggles that are required to achieve beauty in our lives. I know we would all have a better relationship with others if we recognized that everyone is fighting their own battle. And I know for certain that we would have better relationships with ourselves if we accepted the struggles we go through as a part of something greater, a way to achieve a more beautiful life. This week and weeks to come I hope to accept this about myself, to realize how far I have come in life and the butterfly I am today as well as the beautiful butterfly I can become.

HAPPY HOUR: Patio Margaritas

I know I have posted A LOT of margarita recipes on this blog, but I have come across my absolute favorite, and quite possibly the absolute easiest margarita you could ever make! This recipe is in honor of our neighbor Karen coming back in to town (even if its only for a few days) She is the one who so generously passed this recipe on to me!

PATIO MARGARITAS.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Can of  Frozen Limeade

Tequila

Limes

Orange Juice

Corona

INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine 1 can of frozen limeade, one can of water (all these measurements you’ll just use the limeade can for!), half a can of orange juice, 1 can of tequila, and half of any Mexican beer (we prefer Corona!) Stir and refrigerate. Garnish glass with a salted rim and a lime wedge and you are good to go!

These are perfect for a casual night of homemade Mexican food or to supply for the masses at a party (they are that easy!)

HOME-SPIRATION: Oil Rubbed Bronze

Oil rubbed bronze. That is a whole new phrase I have come to appreciate so much during this renovation. We are doing white walls and cabinets with dark hardwood floors and I couldn’t find hardware or fixtures I loved with that combination until I came across oil rubbed bronze. Hardware may be the last thing you think about, I know for me it was! As long as it wasn’t brass I could care less what color it was. With this home renovation I have come to realize that the love is in the details. And I certainly have fallen in LOVE with this detail. Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for oil rubbed bronze accents.
