LOVE LETTERS: The New Look!

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

I have been working hard on some new and upcoming changes to the blog! For the past two years (wow I can not believe it has been that long!) I have really been focused on my content, finding my voice as a blogger, and really diving in to what I love to write about. I feel like I have kind of let the look of my site go to the wayside while I found my footing. I am so excited to change up my theme (loving FICTIVE) and hopefully in the future have a custom site! I am also trying to focus a lot of energy on my next step in the blogging world. First on the list, getting active in social media! Here is to the next chapter of LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

LOVE LETTERS: Engagement Photos Sneak Peak

Tonight we are celebrating our engagement with all of our Texas friends and family at the place David and I met for the very first time! In honor of our engagement party I thought I would share just a small sneak peak the amazing engagement photos session David and I had at the great State Fair of Texas (unusual yes… and completely amazing!) My extremely talented photographer, Shaun Menary, was kind enough to send us a quick preview and we are so thrilled! I can’t wait to share ALL of our photos with you soon!

HOME-SPIRATION: Outdoor Fireplace

So in recent months I have done A LOT of outdoor fire pit and patio posts. I think it is due to the fact that having recently moved to Dallas I am realizing how many months of the year outdoor spaces can be utilized here! I mean its October and today the high is 90 degrees! Yes I do miss the leaves changing and bundling up for fall activities, but I definitely do not miss the snow and cold! I love the idea of an outdoor fireplace for these late fall months in Dallas. It does get cool at night and I can imagine me and David having a place in the future with a gorgeous outdoor space, drinking wine and enjoying an outdoor fire. Here are some of my favorite home-spirations…

HAPPY HOUR: Spiked Cider

Happy Friday everyone! Nothing says fall in the Stephenson household more than pumpkin picking, apple cider, and some good pumpkin ice cream! This is the delicious recipe I will be serving up this weekend for our amazing fall weekend.

SPIKED CIDER.

SPIKED CIDER.

INGREDIENTS

1 Quart of apple cider

1 Package of mulling spices

Spiced Rum (We always prefer Bacardi)

DIRECTIONS

Bring the quart of apple cider and package of mulling spices to a boil.

Once boiling, turn the heat down to low and allow the mixture to simmer for 30 minutes.

Strain out all mulling spices, serve cider over 1 ounce of spiced rum.

The whole idea for spiked cider came when I saw this ADORABLE package of mulling spices at Kroger last week. You can find them at your local Kroger or Amazon!

REINCARNATION: Lantern Lighting

I have spent a HUGE (maybe inordinate) amount of time shopping for light fixtures. In our previous renovation posts you see that we got rid of our brass light fixtures and updated them. One great trend I came across while researching our dining room table fixture was lantern inspired lighting. We ended up going with a round chandelier type fixture, but I do still love the idea! Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for lantern lighting and a few great fixtures in case you get inspired by the idea!

HOME-SPIRATION: Hexagon Tile

So I know there has been a huge resurgence of subway tile. Everyone is using subway tile, and for good reason! It is a classic tile used as far back as 1904. It looks great in any space and is guaranteed to never go out of style, which is always my style! But besides subway tile I have really fallen in love with these hexagon shaped tiles. Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for hexagon tiles used in almost every space!

LOVE LETTERS: We’re Engaged!

I have some amazing, incredible, exciting news!! (I really don’t think there are enough exclamation points and adjectives to describe how I feel right now typing out this post!!) Saturday night David asked me to marry him and I could not have been happier to say yes. Saturday was the perfect day of relaxing for me, I went shopping and got a mani and pedi while David golfed. We had planned to go to our favorite restaurant in Dallas (the spot David took me on our very first date) Campisi’s (the original one on Mockingbird!) I like to get ready for our dates in our guest bedroom while David gets ready in our room. I always love to pretend that its our very first date and David gets to see me when I am all ready. I usually walk down the stairs and David will tell me I look great and we will be on our way for our dinner plans. Well this Saturday was a little different, I got all dolled up and I walked down the stairs where David met me, got down on one knee and told me ever since he waited for me from the first time he took me to Campisi’s he was hoping this day would come, he said a ton more sweet and heartfelt things, and then asked me to marry him! Of course I said YES! We shared a champagne toast (he had a bottle chilled and waiting– this guy thinks of everything!) then we went to Campisi’s and shared the same meal we shared on our first date. Afterwards, we came back to our house where we celebrated the good news with our very good friends and neighbors, drinking champagne, laughing, and loving the moment. Thank you to everyone who has loved and encouraged us while we were dating, we can not wait to start this journey together!

HOME-SPIRATION: Cast Iron Tubs

David and I have really always been fans of HGTV and The DIY Network, but with our move to Cincinnati and this terribly cold winter we really have fallen in love with so many shows! We love to watch Rehab Addict with Nicole Curtis, and all of the amazing things she does in restoring old homes. We see cast iron tubs and claw foot tubs on that show all of the time and I really love the idea of a cast iron tub in a gorgeous bathroom. I don’t know if this type of tub would really fit in at our new build in Plano, TX but they do look gorgeous in all the redone historic homes. Here are some of my favorite home-spiration image for cast iron tubs.
