TOURIST STYLE: Cincinnati Food Finds

Today is the day that David and I officially move from Cincinnati to Dallas for good! Of course I will miss my huge family that lives in Cincinnati, but I think second to them I will miss all the wonderful food Cincinnati has to offer! Of course we will miss the usual, Skyline and Montgomery Inn, but these are some of our favorite food finds of Cincinnati. If you have not been to these place you must check them out!

MARX’S BAGELS

This has been a favorite of mine since childhood and I have dragged David there twice in one week before! I always get a tuna melt, on a bialy, with swiss! This place is an amazing place, with amazing food, and an owner who is as crazy and hilarious as ever. Trust me, you get lunch and a show.

BREW RIVER

This is a great little place David and I stumbled upon one little date night. Its this small little place with a great little patio. They give you amazing beer flights and the food is INCREDIBLE. We also hear they have an amazing brunch, so we will be back soon to try it!

STRONG’S PIZZA

This has been our pizza staple for the past four months! Its a small joint in Newport, KY that has amazing pizza and salads. Our favorite is The Hot Drunk Hawaiian: vodka sauce, prosciutto, jalapeños, and pineapple!

Their original pizza is The Margherita. One of the best I have ever had!

BLUE ASH CHILI

I know I said I wouldn’t mention Cincinnati classics, but you can’t escape four months in Cincinnati without some Cincinnati style chili. We love skyline, but this place is also one of our favorites! Plus we love anything that is Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives approved! If you ever go there, you really need to consider getting their amazing 6-way (topped with deep friend jalapeño bottle caps!)

We will miss you Cincinnati! But we will be back soon and we’ll be hungry!

TOURIST STYLE: 1215 Wine Bar

After my post on Cooper’s Hawk I realize I really needed to post about another one of our favorite wine spots in Cincinnati, 1215 Wine Bar. Its this small gem in OTR that has an amazing selection of wines, a great small plates menu, and live music. The best thing about this place is that they have a whole wall of wines sold at the rock bottom price that you can buy and take home or buy and have them serve it to you there!

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

The best thing to try at 1215 is their WINE FLIGHTS! You get a selection of three wines, and if you ask the bartender he will number them and give you a list of flavors and aromas found in each glass of wine and you have to guess which glass is which description! Its my favorite thing to do! And of course it helps that I always beat David!

Their plates are small, but the quality is amazing! And that honey almond crunch they serve with their cheese plates is AMAZING with blue cheese!

TOURIST STYLE: Cooper’s Hawk in Cincinnati, OH

So if you have read some of my past posts you know David and I love wine. Drinking wine, wineries, if it involves grapes we are thrilled. So of course when we found out there was a great new wine tasting room in Cincinnati, Cooper’s Hawk, we had to go and see what it was all about!

Well the review is in and we had such an AMAZING time. I had briefly heard a few ladies at work discussing the new place so I looked in to it, and found an amazing review describing the place as “a little bit of Napa Valley in Cincinnati” so of course that peaked my interest! We were greeted when we arrived with a small tasting of wine and were told that there was a tasting room, a bar area and restaurant. We decided to start with their deluxe wine tasting which included a house made dessert of our choice. I have never paired dessert with dessert wines before, but let me tell you it was HEAVEN for a girl with a sweet tooth! After a full wine tasting we had an amazing flatbread pizza at the bar. I am telling you if you are ever in Cincinnati and are a wine lover of any kind you really need to check this place out! They also have locations in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin! I may have been born and raised in Cincinnati, but I still love checking out new attractions in tourist style.

TOURIST STYLE: In Flight

So this weekend I traveled back and fourth between Dallas and Cincinnati and will also be doing so for the Fourth of July weekend! I always travel with a book and pick up a good magazine in the airport. Here are a few of the things that I have been reading this week…

This is SUCH an interesting book! I've recently been really interested in the food phenomenon, where our food comes from and why we eat what we eat. Definitely check this read out!

I originally bought this magazine just because it had Connie Britton on the front (hello I LOVE Friday Night Lights AND Nashville!) But it was such a good read about the amazing people in business and what creative things they are doing!

My new obsession... Inc. Magazine. I have read some really great issues. I always love a good People magazine but this one did have some great tips, tricks, and business info in it!

TOURIST STYLE: Elk Creek Vineyard

Today marks Love Letters To Home’s OFFICIAL 100th POST! I am so excited! I feel like this blog has come a long way since I first thought up my idea to enter the digital world! I wanted this post to be one of my favorite memories from this summer… and definitely something all of you should check out! So my boyfriend and I love wine… love might be an understatement. We always try to check out local vineyards, wine tastings, and wine rooms wherever we are. He came to visit me one weekend and we went to my parents lake house (about an hour outside of Cincinnati in Warsaw, KY) Near Warsaw there is great little country vineyard called Elk Creek Vineyard, so naturally we had to check it out! Here are a few photos from our great little adventure.

I highly recommend checking out Elk Creek Vineyards. But even if you aren’t in the area finding local a local winery is just a google search away. You don’t have to travel all the way to Napa Valley to learn about wine and enjoy a beautiful summer day! Always drink responsibly 🙂

TOURIST STYLE: Maximo Cocina Mexicana & Margarita Lounge, Dallas, TX

I literally had THE BEST MARGARITA of my life this weekend… and of course I have to spread the word! My boyfriend and I went to Easter brunch at Maximo: Cocina Mexicana & Margarita Lounge and it was AMAZING. The interior was beautiful and would be so intimate for a Saturday night dinner date. They are really known for their food and their Jalapeño Margarita (which of course is the margarita I speak of in the beginning of this post!)

TOURIST STYLE: Bar Belmont in the Belmont Hotel, Dallas, TX

I have been so delinquent with posts this week! I am still recovering from this weekend I guess… my mom came in to town to celebrate her 50th birthday and 3 friends surprised her by coming down as well. So needless to say we were busy busy busy! I will have a lot of Dallas tourist posts coming soon! But I found my new FAVORITE bar in Dallas… Bar Belmont in the Belmont Hotel. It has the best view of the Dallas skyline on their gorgeous outdoor bar patio.

The Belmont Hotel is a little historic boutique hotel. Its been around since the 1940s!
