PRODUCT FEATURE: Target’s Threshold Organic Blankets

I try not to go to Target that often because I want to buy EVERYTHING on the shelves. And it definitely is a problem. Recently I caved and went to Target to find cute Valentines day goodies for my roommates (more on that in a late post! so stayed tuned) but I fell in LOVE with this amazing organic blanket by Threshold in the bedding section. I have actually had a home goods crush on this blanket ever since I featured it in my first blog post!

Featured in my FIRST EVER post on this blog- this is the Threshold Organic Blanket selection at Target.

I chose the Grey one! (I recently purchased an orange blanket from HomeGoods so I opted for a new color– but I am still OBSESSED with the orange Threshold option here!

REINCARNATION: Paper Walls

I feel like there is so much to discover in the world of wallpaper. (just as a warning there may be several posts on this because its just weirdly interesting to me) See when I used to think of wallpaper I automatically thought of this terrible wallpaper we had in our kitchen when I was growing up. Some horrible dated pattern with a bunny border, you read that correctly a bunny [eating carrots] border. This wallpaper took a long, rough week to put up, and for that reason and that reason alone it stayed up for many many years.

So do people still use wall paper? When did wall papering become cool again? Is it really cool or even worth the painstaking effort anymore?

Personally, I love wallpaper. I think it adds a unique look to any room. A more graphically bold way to make a statement. And I love anything that makes a statement. Here are some inspiring ways that wallpaper has become modern once again.

Here are a few (not so bunny oriented) wall paper choices that would be great for any room or pop of color! And these are affordable options too! (though lets all agree I would love any room wallpapered up in Jonathan Adler wallpaper at $250 a roll!)

Here is the allen + roth peal geometric print from Lowes. Unfortunately the price was not available online, but I would cautiously assume it is in the normal allen + roth price range around $50-$60 per roll.

REINCARNATION: Hall Of Mirrors

Just like for women, mirrors can be an interiors best friend or worst enemy. Here are some of my favorite ways to utilize mirrors to create a beautiful interior.

as a bold statement piece- focusing more on the furniture aspect of the mirror than reflective qualities

STYLIST: Accessorizing Your Shelves

You should treat every room you have as an original outfit. You are the one in charge of getting this room dressed and ready. There are the basics of an outfit and then there are the accessories, the things that really make a person unique. Anyone can buy a shirt from the GAP (or in this case paint their home and buy some Pottery Barn) but your individual style lies in the details, the accessories.

So do your shelves look like this….

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

And you really want them to look like this…

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

Here are my go to rules to styling your shelves:

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

1. PRIORITIZE.

Be able to determine which items you want on your shelves and which do not belong. You can not possibly keep and showcase everything you have. Be selective. A never be afraid to throw away items. No matter how well decorated, a house with too much clutter won’t be pleasing to the eye.

2. MIX AND MATCH.

Try and incorporate other items on to the shelves besides what is conventional. A bookshelf does not have to be all books. It is more interesting to combine picture frames and souvenirs from trips. Also, there is no reason to keep items on separate shelves

3. UNIQUE PIECES.

I have said this before, but I will say it a million times. Do not buy things just to fill space. You want everything in your home to have meaning. If you spend money to buy cheap things to fill space you will end up with a house full of things you don’t love that cost the same amount as a few things you really do love. Make sure you fill your shelves with conversational pieces, ones you really want to show the world.

4. REEVALUATE.

You are allowed to change your mind. Nothing is set in stone and everything should be constantly evolving. Make sure your shelves change and rotate. And definitely make sure they are not dusty!!

SPEND OR SAVE: Entryway

The entryway to your home or apartment is the first impression of your space. A welcoming entryway can instantly make someone feel at home. I love the idea of a simple entryway with very little clutter, but that still makes a statement.

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

So once you have an inspiration image for a room you want to decorate or recreate you have to decide what you are willing to spend. You also have to decide where you want to spend your money. If you are like me, and on a tight budget, you are going to need to decide where you can make compromises. If you’re in love with that bench, you may pay full price for the bench and spend less on the other items. If you want a bold chandelier hanging in your entryway that is where you will spend your money. Here are options to recreate this room depending on where you want to spend and where you want to save.

If you bought all the splurge items the total would be $1600 and if you bought all of the save items the total would be $956. Now if you already have some of these items or similar ones you are all set! My one rule when budgeting for my home is if you love it and can’t afford it now, wait and buy it when you can. Do not waste your money on things you do not absolutely love just because you want to fill space.

REINCARNATION: Morocco

This whole post really stemmed from reading [more like gazing deeply] at all the amazing pictures in Angelika Taschen’s book, Morocco Style, while at work. I just love the color and shapes combinations in Moroccan style interiors and architecture.
