INSTAPOST: Renovation Update

So of course this water heater flood has really turned our home upside down! Thankfully I have the most handy man in the world who has decided to take on all of these major renovations (by himself!) in order to make us the most beautiful home. (okay be warned this may be kind of a bragging post because I feel so lucky right now!) The past two weeks David has finished all of the drywall that needed to be done, ripped up all of our baseboards, and has removed almost all the tile on our first floor! Here are some photos of the damage…

The next steps include removing the last layer of grout and remove the tile from our downstairs powder room, paint, then we (and by this I mean David) can start laying hardwood floors! Slowly but surely this place will become less dusty and more like our dream home! I am just so grateful for David’s insanely amazing work ethic!a

HOME-SPIRATION: The New Barn Door

When it comes to doors the trends come very slowly, and tend to remain the same. I love the new trend of using barn doors (old and new versions) in place of normal hinged doors. Here are my favorite home-spiration images! Enjoy!

HOME-SPIRATION: Black and White

Black and white. This is a timeless classic that I love in fashion, but I always thought this combination would get dull in boring in home decor. Here are some amazing and inspiring black and white looks that really pop!

HOUSEHOLD GUIDE: Color Schemes

Color schemes. My favorite part the beginning process of planning a room. A color scheme is not just the color of the walls (speaking from someone who has always lived in a place she could not paint!). A color scheme has to do with fabrics, accessories, furniture, and carpets! Here are a few different takes on brainstorming a color scheme…

REINCARNATION: Breakfast Nook

I really love the idea of a breakfast nook. It may stem from the fact that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and I can imagine nothing more luxurious than milling over the paper with breakfast and coffee in a gorgeously decorated nook. Hello? Doesn’t this sound delightful, people?!

REINCARNATION: Wooden Welcome

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

I have loved this picture since I saw it on Facebook and I keep picturing what type of home I would have to have to recreate this look. I feel like bold design choices like wood on a wall are kind of like that favorite daring top we keep in our closet but never seem to wear because we don’t know if we can “pull it off.” Well here is my bold choice to try and recreate this look (digitally of course!) So here goes!

First to tackle the wooden aspect of the wall I looked in to laminate flooring and how you might be able to put it on your walls at home. So of course I had to do a little digging and found this great tutorial on how to install laminate flooring on your walls at HomeDepot.com (just click on the image and it will take you to the video if you’re interested)

If you’re really unsure about the idea of a wooden wall check out magazine article on how hotels frequently use this technique!

Even if you’re not interested in a wooden wall near your entry way, you could paint it a bold color and still add these accessories:
