HOME-SPIRATION: His and Her Office

This past weekend I surprised David and gave him his office back. Many of you might be reading this wondering what happened to his office in the first place? Well my kind and gracious husband-to-be let me turn his bachelor pad office (full equipped with bo-flex machine) in to a quirky quest bedroom and a full time clothes closet. I finally came to my senses and realized that David and I both need a space to work and feel comfortable! From that, the idea of a his and her office was born. Next came the challenge of surprising him, luckily he was off to a fantasy football draft and golf outing with his friends this past weekend so it was the perfect time. More on the surprise later, first here are some of my favorite his and her office home-spirations.

INSTAPOST: Renovation Update Part Three

We have made a huge amount of progress in such a short amount of time (David you are amazing!) Here are some photos from the past week and half so you can see how much progress we have made!

HOME-SPIRATION: Oil Rubbed Bronze

Oil rubbed bronze. That is a whole new phrase I have come to appreciate so much during this renovation. We are doing white walls and cabinets with dark hardwood floors and I couldn’t find hardware or fixtures I loved with that combination until I came across oil rubbed bronze. Hardware may be the last thing you think about, I know for me it was! As long as it wasn’t brass I could care less what color it was. With this home renovation I have come to realize that the love is in the details. And I certainly have fallen in LOVE with this detail. Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for oil rubbed bronze accents.

HOME-SPIRATION: Retro Kitchen Chairs

So while David is hard at work doing the renovations, I am of course day dreaming about all the furniture and decor I need to put in to this new space of ours! Our new goal in our eating/living space is to have our kitchen, a dining room, and a living space (before we were using the dining room area as David’s office) Our goal for the kitchen is to have a breakfast nook where David and I can eat together. We already have a great table, so I really want to add some retro chairs and a great rug to make the space complete. Here are some of my favorite home-spiration images for my future breakfast nook.

INSTAPOST: Renovation Update

It has been a very very busy time in the Stephenson household. We are planning our wedding, working full time, oh and completely remodeling our first floor! The dust and concrete would be enough to drive someone crazy, thankfully David and I have a good sense of humor! They say home renovations are 80% prep work and we are living that right now! David has done an amazing job prepping our house for paint, tile, and hardwoods! Our first area of focus when we get to flooring will be our powder room, you never realize how convent a bathroom on the first floor is, until you have to rip our the toilet and sink! Here are some of our recent renovations photos so you can see the madness that is going on!

The tile AND mortar are gone in the kitchen! (excuse our messiness... it is hard to live in a construction zone and still be chic!)

Next.... the demise of our horrible BRASS light fixtures! This photo makes me oh so happy!

And finally a great shot of a freshly painted ceiling and my man installing one of many new light fixtures in our home! A huge THANK YOU to David's mom for helping him paint and making sure he was safe... also for getting me this picture! :)

David is in charge of the renovation agenda, so you will have to ask him whats going to happen next, but I think it will be painting the walls, cabinets, and backsplash! Or it could be finishing up the powder room! We have so much to choose from here! More DIY and renovation posts to come!

HOME-SPIRATION: Kitchen Cabinet Colors

So as we go along in this renovation process it is easy to get caught up in the small things, how dusty the house seems or how we have to wear shoes constantly now (I am a ‘go barefoot’ kind of girl!) but what I really need to focus on is the fact that these renovations are really giving us great experience in what we both really want to do (design spaces and renovate!) So I get a blank canvas and free manual labor! (haha. only joking David!) So right now I am collecting inspiration images (the designer in me) and trying to put together an image of what we want our first floor to look like! We plan on painting our wood cabinets because we have decided to put hardwood floors throughout the first floor. I really can’t decide between grey or white! Here are some of my home-spiration images for painted cabinets, maybe you can help me decide!

INSTAPOST: Our Flooded Home

Well I have been absent from the blogging world this past week because of some crazy and unfortunate news! My brother had his lovely wedding in Annapolis, Maryland and while we were out of town our water heater broke and completely flooded the first floor of our house! The ironic (and frustrating!!) thing about this is that we had a NEW water heater in our garage that we had planned on installing when we got home!

LOVE LETTERS TO HOME.

Before the carpet was taken out... it might not look like much but man that carpet was soaked!

YUCK.

My sweet man set up our living room again after the carpet was ripped out so it didn't look so sad!

This was so not what we were expecting, but it may be a blessing in disguise. We are hoping to do a TON of DIY projects to really get this place the way we want it to be! Hopefully in a few months (yes I am being optimistic here!) we will have the renovated home of our dreams 🙂 Stay tuned!
