So my time in Texas has officially come to a close. I will be back in August but it is time for me to (once again) pack my bags and move back for summer semester at the University of Cincinnati. Coming from a girl who has moved from 7 different apartments in 3 different cities in 4 years, I have come to gain quite a bit of knowledge on moving and packing. Here are a few of the moving tips I have learned over these past 4 years.
staying organized is CRUCIAL, people! Organization is definitely an acquired skill and is very important in moving. So if you are not the organizing type… find a good friend who is. Labeling everything really helps. If you know the place an item starts at in the move you will know where it is going to end up!
this sounds a little crazy and paranoid but trust me its not! Document everything from the lease contracts and important phone numbers all the way down to how many boxes you have! If you are renting a place you will definitely want to photo document the apartment your are moving in to before you move your things in and keep them in a safe place for when you move out!
Research all kinds of things! From the neighborhood to the best place to order delivery pizza from (its a tradition the first night I spend in a new place you have delivery pizza!) Also, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to look up deals on groupon and local sites for carpet cleaning and hired mover deals!
Moving is a stressful time… VERY stressful time. Know when you are getting overwhelmed and ask for help! Also, know when you should hire someone versus doing it yourself!
This is important for your sanity! Never wait until the last minute to pack boxes because they will end up a mess! There will ALWAYS be last minute errands to run and something will go wrong! So make sure you have enough time to deal with it and don’t over extend yourself and your time during this stressful period!
